It’s not a secret that the Cleveland Browns have been one of the most tragic sports franchises over the past couple decades. In fact, they have only have two winning seasons in the past 20 years. They have made the playoffs twice since 1990. Oh, one more mind-blowing stat – the last time the Browns won on a Sunday, Johnny Manziel was their quarterback.
It’s understandable that the fan base would be more than a little frustrated at the Browns’ most recent lowering-of-the-bar – the second 0-16 season in NFL history (2008 Detroit Lions were the other). Making fun of the Browns can only be described as low hanging fruit at this point.
Mansfield, Ohio native Paul Stark passed away on Wednesday at the age of 80. The long-time Columbus resident and Ohio-centric sports fan passed after complications with a brief illness. While that may be the medical explanation, Stark made sure to include that these complications were “exacerbated by the hopeless condition of the Cleveland Browns.” Nothing like a little dark humour in an obituary.
His passing came just a few days before the Browns lost their 16th game of the season, but Stark’s obituary does have a hint of optimism a little late on as it reads “Paul passed just before the Browns were prepared to turn the corner.”
