He's staying home!
An emotional Obi Toppin was drafted by the New York Knicks in the first round of the 2020 NBA Draft.
If his mother told him 5-years ago that he would be in the NBA, he said he would have thought she was lying, like it was an April Fools joke. It's not often that you get to stay in your hometown when you're drafted into the big leagues and Obi is very grateful for his opportunity.
“I’m from New York, that’s why it’s important. Me repping my city, it’s amazing. A lot of people pray to be in this position, and I’m not going to take it for granted. I promise you that.”
Toppin was born in Brooklyn and grew up in the Bushwick neighborhood before moving to Florida, eventually returning to New York.
Fans could not be more excited to have a player with New York roots and passion on the team.
