The New Jersey Devils played a game against Swiss hockey club SC Bern in Switzerland on Monday evening and it was a familiar setting for Nico Hischier. The 19-year-old Brig, Switzerland native played 15 games with Bern SC during the 2015-16 season before he moved to North America to join the Halifax Mooseheads of the QMJHL.

While Hischier only spent 15 games with the Swiss club, the SC Bern faithful gave the 2017 first overall pick an incredible ovation and welcome home when his name was announced before the game.

The in-arena announcer saved Hischier’s name for the final pre-game introduction and just about every single one of the 17,000-plus people in attendance were on their feet to welcome him home.

Hischier was pretty stoked for his chance to play in Bern with his NHL club and it ended up being just about everything he could have wished for.
