Whatever team wins the Stanley Cup next year is going to have a helluva act to follow in terms of celebrating with the cup.
After winning hockey’s ultimate prize for the first time in franchise history, the Washington Capitals truly set the benchmark on how to celebrate winning arguably the toughest trophy in sports. From Alex Ovechkin to Tom Wilson and Jakub Vrana, and finally Evgeny Kuznetsov and Dimitry Orlov, we’ve seen just about everything from the Capitals’ time with the cup this summer.
Nicklas Backstrom, one of the most underrated players in the league that rightfully deserved a championship as much as Ovechkin, finally had his special day with the trophy last week before Kuznetsov and Orlov got their hands on it. Philip Pritchard brought it over to Gavle, Sweden, the hometown of Backstrom. He was joined by fellow Swede and Capitals teammate Christian Djoos, who hails from Gothenburg.
In a photo posted to her Instagram account, Backstrom celebrated with several of his family members, included his mother, Catrin, who celebrated by doing an epic cup stand with Lord Stanley’s mug.
The caption of “farmor I bucklan” translates to “Grandma in the Stanley Cup.
Catrin documented her son’s day with the cup all over his Instagram page.
