Being an official is never an easy task, and it’s even tougher when you do it for a living at the professional level.

On Thursday night the Montreal Canadiens hosted the New York Rangers and before the game they held a special ceremony to honour referee Justin St-Pierre for working his 1,000th career NHL game.

St-Pierre was born in Dolbeau QC, a small town in the Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean region of Quebec, and he had his own cheering section in attendance who made the trip from his hometown.

St-Pierre made his NHL debut on November 9, 2005 in Columbus and it’s awesome that the NHL is starting to celebrate their officials’ accomplishments.
