Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals have silenced all the critics as they captured their first Stanley Cup in franchise history on Thursday night in Las Vegas. The two teams went back and forth all night long and it was actually Vegas who took the lead into the final period of play, but thanks to two huge goals from Devante Smith-Pelly and Lars Eller in the third period.
With it being the biggest accomplishment of Ovechkin’s career and the biggest accomplishment in Capitals history, the entire hockey world showed the Conn Smythe Trophy winner and the team lots of love after the victory.
Every year analysts and fans always tend to pick the Capitals going into the postseason based on their dominance throughout the regular season but every year they would let those who picked them down by falling extremely short. Well, they can forget about all of the mistakes they’ve made in previous years because they’re officially Stanley Cup champions and the rest of the NHL showed them love.
Ovechkin has waited 13 long years for this moment and his wait is finally over.
Congratulations to the Washington Capitals.
