At one point in time, Clay Matthews was one of the most feared defenders in the league. Quarterbacks would have nightmares of his long blonde locks penetrating the O-line and having a shot.

While the Green Bay Packers franchise leader in sacks may not quite be what he was when he was younger, he’s still a force on defence. At least, he’s trying to be. Matthews has a habit of getting called for personal fouls or roughing the passer – two very costly penalties – but it seems like fans don’t really believe that he deserves them

This flared up again last night when Russell Wilson hit the turf on a seemingly shoulder-to-shoulder hit. Sure enough, the yellow flag flew.

Unfortunately for Matthews, this is nothing new.

Even Wilson’s coach Pete Carroll thought it was a fair hit.

It’s a frustrating situation for defenders trying to hit the quarterback, because the protection is so QB friendly these days that it can lead to some dire consequences. The Rams felt that last night, as a late Seahawks go-ahead drive was allowed to continue as a result of the foul.

The football world wasn’t happy.
