The Eagles haven't lost much in 2017, but on Sunday the fell 24-10 to the Seahawks, and according to Philly fans a big reason they loss was because of Russell Wilson's supposed forward pass.
During the fourth quarter of Sunday Night Football, with the Seahawks up 17-10, Wilson completed what looked to be a possible forward lateral on 3rd and 9 that resulted in a first down. The Eagles didn't challenge the play and the Seahawks went on to march down the field and score a touchdown, putting them up 24-10.
Eagles fans were irate, as the instant replay seemed to show that Wilson may have indeed performed an illegal forward pass. Tuesday, renowned astrophysicist and the internet's go-to science personality Neil deGrasse Tyson examined the play and stated that he believed it to be a legal lateral, calling it a “Galilean Transformation.”
Somehow we don't think that Eagles fans are going to enjoy hearing Tyson's conclusion, as it means that they lost fair and square. But also because how many people know or understand what a Galilean Transformation is?
Five minutes of googling the term hasn't really cleared things up all that much, and even though he tossed the ball at around the 47-yard line and it was seemingly caught at the 48-yard line, we can see why most people will choose to side with the astrophysicist on this one. The Eagles still should have challenged it, though, as the refs likely would have sided with them based on the replay.
