The NBA has agreed with the players association on a list of social justice messages that players will be allowed to wear on their jersey nameplates in replacement of their surname.
The list includes a range of slogans and terms that have been used throughout the Black Lives Matter movement, and “Black Lives Matter” is one of the approved phrases as well. All in all, the list includes just under 30 messages that players can choose from, which were reported by ESPN’s Marc Spears.
Many players have expressed a desire to keep the Black Lives Matter movement front and center during the return of basketball, and being able to wear these messages on their jersey is one way that they’ll be able to do that.
The NBA will also paint Black Lives Matter on to the court sidelines for games played in Orlando when the season returns, as another method of throwing their support behind the movement.
