Who says baseball players aren't tough?
Washington Nationals pitcher Hunter Strickland suffered a freak accident during an afternoon workout at PNC Park before the Nats game against the Pirates on Tuesday.
According to manager Davey Martinez, Strickland was struck in the face by a barbell. He was seen walking around in the clubhouse with a bandage over his nose with severe discolouration and swelling on his face.
He was taken to a doctor's office close for x-rays whee it was revelaed that his nose was broken. Upon returning, Strickland signed autographs for fans and told them that he was available to pitch.
While there's no footage or photos, Strickland did send out a tweet before opening pitch.
We're not entirely sure on how exactly the barbell connected with his nose, as details were limited, but nonetheless, that's not how you want to spend your pre-game warm-ups.
When Strickland does pitch out of the bullpen next, he will join teammate Max Scherzer to pitch with a broken nose this season; Scherzer broke it after taking a practice bunt right off the booger blower in batting practice.
He pitched the following night and mowed down the Phillies in seven innings of work.
