Just last month, Major League Baseball decided to crack down on pitchers using foreign substances on baseball.
Within the league’s memo, they shed light on how they will be further monitoring and inspecting balls that appear to be tarnished with, as “players are subject to discipline...regardless of whether evidence of the violation has been discovered during or following a game” said Mike Hill, MLB’s executive vice president.
And boy, was Mike and the gang not kidding when they sent this memo out to the league’s 30 teams.
On Thursday evening, Ken Rosenthal reported that multiple balls used during Trevor Bauer’s start against the Oakland Athletics were collected as they appeared to be tarnished with and were sticky.
Sticky baseball for a sticky situation.
Bauer has been very outspoken within the league and notably, has denied the use of pine tar on used baseballs.
So what’s the verdict? Well we still need to wait and see what the league concludes, but we wonder what pitchers will go under review next.
