It appears as if the Toronto Maple Leafs will be growing playoff beards this season, as Mitch Marner confirmed that he’d got a somewhat early start on it already.
Marner was asked who he thinks will have the best beard and he named Roman Polak, but then he was asked who would grow the worst. Last year the playoffs started the same way with many fans and media doubting that the young team would even be capable of growing beards, and they haven’t gotten much older.
As Marner points out himself, many peg him as the one who will grow the worst beard, but he named a rookie who might struggle more than he does this season: Travis Dermott.
Realistically, the Leafs playoff beards will really only become a real topic of discussion if they are able to get past the Boston Bruins. Several players around the league will already have beards, but with the Leafs remaining clean shaven up until the last game of the regular season, we won’t really see any of their true beard potential unless they can make it into the second round of the playoffs.
Like Marner said, under the right light, you can see the facial hair he has already, but if we are to find out who grows the worst beard on the team, we’re going to get a little deeper than this.
