In 2015, a video went viral of a New York City rat carrying a slice of pizza down a flight of stairs at a subway station. The following year, the Staten Island Yankees held an online poll to find a new temporary team name to help give them a hometown identity and the winner happened to be the ‘Pizza Rats’.
Well, it turns out the Staten Island Yankees are reviving the name and will go back to being identified as the ‘Staten Island Pizza Rats’ for their remaining Saturday games this season.
The team will take the field as the Staten Island Pizza Rats on June 23, July 7, July 14, July 21, and August 4, and will rock a few fantastic Pizza Rat logos on their pinstripe uniforms; which fans can now purchase on the team’s site.
The team had some fun and went all out with the promotional photos.
