The Toronto Maple Leafs are attempting to pull off the unthinkable in a highly anticipated Game 7 against the Boston Bruins. After going down 3-1 early in the series, Toronto took Games 5 and 6 to even things up.
Players have different ways of preparing for a game of such magnitude. Some choose to blast their headphones while others will watch past highlights to fire them self up. Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner was on a bit of a different page, insisting that thinking about hockey was the last thing he wanted to do. When asked about his afternoon plan, the 20-year-old stated his pre-game routine would entail looking at video games and watching people play Fortnite.
Whatever Marner has been doing has been working. The former London Knight has arguably been the Leafs’ best forward in the postseason, leading the team with 8 points in the six games heading into tonight.
Marner isn’t the only star from a Canadian team to include gaming in his pre-game routine. Winnipeg Jets forward Patrick Laine confessed he does the same thing before each and every game.
For the league’s Millennial players, this kind of routine is becoming more and more common. Marner has displayed a goofy side since entering the league, so it’s not surprising to hear this is how he planned to stay loose ahead of the game.
