Now that the Leafs have locked up Auston Matthews to a deal (in case you missed it, they signed him to a 5-year extension on Tuesday), the next contract extension on the list for GM Kyle Dubas is Mitch Marner's.

The 21-year-old will set career-highs in goals, assists, and points before the season is done, and he's going to command (and deserves) a lot of money.  The question has always been do the Leafs have enough to pay all of their young stars and despite all of the outside noise, both Marner and Mike Babcock expressed their confidence a deal will get done.

"Mitch is a lifetime Leaf."  That's a bold statement to say the least, but it's a statement with a root idea many have echoed.

One way or another, both sides appear to be committed to getting a deal done and that's something Leafs fans can take comfort in until negotiations start up once again.
