Just over a week ago 17 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School students lost their lives after a former student opened fire inside the building during the day.

Since the tragedy occurred at the Parkland, Florida, high school, the Florida Panthers and other organizations across North America have shown their support for the families and friends of the victims and the rest of the community in different ways.

The Miami Heat returned from the NBA All-Star break with a game in New Orleans on Friday night, but they returned back home for a tilt with the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday night. With it being the Heat’s first game back on their home court in Florida, the team held a special pre-game ceremony in honour of the victims.

The team showed the photos of all 17 victims on the jumbotron ahead of the game and even had one of their fellow students sing the national anthem.

During this time, members of both the Grizzlies and the Heat came together and held a massive Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School flag over centre court.

The home team helped lift everyone's spirits at least for the night as they cruised to a 115-89 victory over the Grizzlies.
