When South Korea defeated Germany 2-0 on Wednesday, soccer fans in Korea weren’t the only footy fans that were stoked. Across the planet, World Cup observers rallied in happiness to see the defending champions eliminated in the group stage for the first time since 1938.

Even though Mexico fell 3-0 to Sweden on the same day, you wouldn’t have known it based on the way Mexican fans celebrated following Korea's upset. Korea was able to hold on to their two goal lead, which meant Mexico advanced to the next round, eliminating the Germans on goal differential.

With their attention solely on the Germany and Korea result, Mexican fans took to the streets to celebrate, and started lifting up any Korea fan in sight.

Despite not advancing to the next round, Korean soccer fans were winners in the eyes of the rest of the world.
