It’s been a rough season for the New York Mets, but at least fans can be a little optimistic about some of the pieces they have in place.

One of those pieces is infielder Jeff McNeil, who currently sits tied for 5th on the team in home runs with 10 and is just two RBI back of Amed Rosario for third most RBI on the team with 44. On Friday night, the 27-year-old helped lead the Mets to their 48th win of the season with a three-run home run in the bottom of the third inning and he has a new pre-game routine to thank for big night.

According to the Santa Barbara, California native, he got to have a little fun with a puppy before the game and as a result he did some serious thinking about going out and getting a dog as he rounded the bases during his home run.

Now this is a pre-game ritual we can gladly get behind.
