The drought is over.
On Thursday night, the Nationals captured their first World Series in improbable fashion. After registering just a single hit through the first six innings, Washington’s lineup exploded with a four-run seventh before ultimately closing things out with a 6-2 victory.
Two members of the squad, ace Max Scherzer and veteran Anibal Sanchez, were teammates together form 2012-2014 in Detroit and rejoined forces in the Nats’ rotation this season. After missing out on a World series title together in 2012, the two shared a wholesome moment after redeeming themselves seven years later.
Watch, as Sanchez chanted “we won, we finally won” while crying.
A lot of baseball fans had the same reaction to the clip:
Okay, so this was probably the most touching moment of the evening. But the funniest? We’re going to have to make our way back to Washington for this one. A fan sitting hear the field hopped on top of a dugout and used it as a slip and slide following the final out.
That took guts.
After years of disappointed for both pitchers, they can finally call themselves World Champions. Surely a moment they’ll never forget.
