Whenever a pitcher goes nine innings and a throws a shutout in under 100 pitches it’s considered a ‘Maddux’, named after former pitcher Greg Maddux.

They’re not something you see every day, or every year for that matter, but on Friday night Atlanta Braves pitcher Max Fried gave us our third Maddux of the season by blanking the Baltimore Orioles on just 90 pitches.

This is the second Maddux in less than two weeks as Adam Wainwright blanked the Pittsburgh Pirates on 88 pitches on August 11, while the first one of the season was thrown by Colorado Rockies pitcher German Marquez on June 29 against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Greg Maddux finished his career with a league-best 13 Madduxes, while no other pitcher in MLB history threw more than 7 during their career.
