One of the Lightning’s goals in Game 2 definitely should not have counted but you won’t catch Islanders tough guy Matt Martin using it as an excuse for his team’s 4-2 loss.
Upon review, Tampa Bay clearly had too many men on the ice on Ondrej Palat’s goal that put the Bolts up 2-1 but Martin, being the rational dude he is, acknowledged that referees are human and these things happen. A pretty refreshing take if you had to ask us!
Good on you Matt, and let’s remember that these kind of calls go both ways. Lightning forward Brayden Point found himself on the wrong side of a goaltender interference call that ultimately led to a Brock Nelson goal but acknowledged the referee was in a tough spot on the call. All class from these two gents.
Good on the players for taking it easy on the zebras. Mistakes happen, let’s all move on.
