Andrew Moloney had a shot at redemption on Saturday when he had the opportunity to take the Super Flyweight belt back off of Joshua Franco. Back in June, Franco had earned the title over Moloney, so their rematch was understandably very highly-anticipated.

Unfortunately, the result appears to be a tarnished one.

Scheduled for a 12-round bout, Moloney and Franco only made it into the 2nd round before the fight was called due to a doctor’s stoppage. The medical staff deemed it too unsafe for Franco to continue fighting after a wound on his eye swelled up so bad it was affecting his vision.

Usually this would mean a quick victory for Moloney, except after a lengthy video review, it was determined that the damage was inflicted by an accidental headbutt, resulting in a no contest.

Immediately, massive outrage ensued. While there was a moment that Moloney and Franco’s heads came together, it looked like the damage was quite clearly caused by a jab that was also clearly seen on camera.

Just about everyone agrees that the fight should have been Moloney’s, and it didn’t take long for Twitter to blow up with their own remarks.
