The legend of the Borocop grew immensely in Vancouver on Monday when the Senators' defenceman pulled off an act of heroism.

During an off day in Vancouver, Borowiecki literally lived up to his nickname by stopping a robbery. Out and about in downtown Vancouver, he saw a man break into a car to steal a backpack.

Known for policing out on the ice and protecting his Sens teammates, Boro did society and the victim a favour by chasing down the wannabe thief with a good old fashion clothesline.

Ahead of their game against the Canucks , the defenceman spoke with the media to recap the incident from his perspective.

Boro, you sir are a true hero. We don't deserve you, you good samaritan.

The owner of the car eventually reached out via text message to thank him.

"I got a text at lunch, and she sent me a nice text telling me how thankful and grateful she was," Borowiecki said. "Then she sent me a tweet and said 'My brother just sent this to me, is this you?' and I was like, 'Yeah,' and she said, 'Actually I'm a huge [Toronto Maple] Leafs fan.'"

As for his teammates, they undoubtedly impressed by his vigilantism, but not exactly surprised.

“That shows a lot of courage from him to go and stop someone because you never know if the person is going to have a knife or anything, said Jean-Gabriel Pageuau.

"I think he just reacted with his big heart and everyone’s happy and everyone is safe now.”

“I’m really proud of him,” defenceman Dylan DeMelo said. “I think that’s just the type of person he is in a moment to think like that. I guess he doesn’t just do it on the ice, he does it off the ice as well, and we were teasing him about the celebration for (former Canucks and Senators winger Alex) Burrows before the game because he might get a key to the city or something.

“I would love to get some camera footage,” DeMelo said. “I don’t know if I would be able to do anything if I even saw that. I would have been like, ‘Hey, somebody is doing something bad, get some help.’ I wouldn’t think of actually going over and taking the guy off his bike.
