Marcus Stroman is on his way to the Mets after getting traded by the Blue Jays on Sunday, but according to his father, that’s not where he had wanted to go.
The Mets weren’t one of the teams involved in many of the rumours leading up to the deal and it surprised many, possibly even Stroman himself. He embraced the Mets on Twitter, even sharing out a childhood photo of him where a Mets jacket, but apparently it wasn’t what he had been hoping for before the trade.
Earl Stroman, Marcus’ dad, told Newsday that he was hoping to go to the Yankees.
“He was hoping it was the Yankees a little bit… He was kind of psyched, maybe hoping to go there. I’m not going to tell you he wasn’t. If he was to leave Toronto at all.”
He also goes on to say that Stroman would probably listen to any offers the Yankees may have when he becomes a free agent. So far, that doesn’t seem to sit too well with Mets fans.
On the Brightside for Mets fans, it appears to be more about playoff contention then the actual team. Stroman’s father stated that he hoped the Mets could make a playoff push, so it would clearly be a priority to him. There are also reports that Stroman may have been pretty angry about the trade initially, hoping he would go to someone that was contending this season.
Not the smoothest start to Stroman’s career with the Mets, but we’re sure once he gets on the mound it will be business as usual.
