Marcel Hossa came into the NHL during the 2001-02 season as a member of the Montreal Canadiens. Like most rookies, Hossa was a wide-eyed youngster hoping to make a name for himself – particularly because his older brother Marian had already put up 56-point and 75-point seasons in the league.

On January 10th, 2002, Hossa found the back of the net for the first time against the New York Islanders. While it was certainly an exciting goal for the rookie recently called up from Quebec, it put the Habs up 4-0 in the 3rd period so the stakes weren’t really that high.

Two days later, the Canadiens met their biggest rival in the Toronto Maple Leafs, and with the score knotted up at 0-0 to start the 2nd period Hossa launched a slapshot into the back of the net from the top of the circle.

Now THAT goal must have felt pretty good, because he ended up celebrating so much Tie Domi had to step in to calm him down. According to Reddit user u/Amphibious_Fire, Hossa explained the story on the Slovak podcast Boris&Brambor with Boris Valabik and Marian Gaborik:

Marcel Hossa on his second career goal: We played Leafs in Toronto and I managed to score my second goal in second game. I was over the moon and as I was celebrating, Tie Domi skated past me saying:”Holy f*ck, take it easy with your celebration kid”

This is definitely not surprising coming from a player as outspoken as Tie Domi, but it’s still funny to hear him chirping a young kid that’s just scored a special goal in his career. Mats Sundin would tie the game later in the period, and the with the show stolen by Jose Theodore ended in a 1-1 tie (back when you could do that!)
