Marc Savard has been out of hockey for nearly 8 years, but his final contract just ended this season, so he felt as though it was time to officially announce his retirement.

In his message is some encouraging news.

After thanking the organizations that gave him the opportunity to live out his dreams, and of course all the people that helped him along the way. He’s ready to start the next chapter in his life and with that was ready to offer a health update for the first time in a long time.

It’s great to hear that Marc Savard is doing well, in case you missed it, he had this to say.

“Also, last but not least my health is the best it’s been in a very long time and I’m grateful for that.”

Savard was a prolific player in his career, scoring over a point-per-game for five straight years in his prime. That’s now two players that have revealed positive news in the past year after having their career end early due to concussions, with Paul Kariya being the first.

Still, you wonder if they’ll try to influence the NHL to be more proactive about these issues after the news of regarding Eric Lindros’s efforts came to light over the past couple of days.
