Roberto Luongo has been known as a great teammate for a long time and he proved why ahead of a milestone that he’ll achieve on Thursday.
Luongo will play his 1000th game against the Islanders, but he doesn’t want to make it a big deal. It is a pretty big deal, because he’ll be only the third goaltender to achieve this in NHL history. Still, he reportedly approached the team and told them that the team is “focused on a playoff push and it wasn’t the right time”.

The Panthers playoff situation is looking grim at the moment. They are currently four points out of a playoff spot, with a game in hand on the eighth place Philadelphia Flyers. With some of his peers starting to retire, who knows how long Luongo has left in the league, so it makes total sense that he would want to be locked in as his team competes for the final playoff spot.
