Muhammad Ali is without a doubt one of the greatest boxers to ever live and one of the most influential athletes to ever walk the Earth. Thursday would have been the Louisville, Kentucky native’s birthday and, although he’s no longer with us, his hometown did something very special in his honour.
On the eve of his birthday, the Louisville Regional Airport Authority’s board voted to have the airport’s name changed to the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport, and officially made the switch on his 77th birthday.
One person who truly enjoyed the news is his widow, Lonnie Ali, who said in a news release that she’s proud of the name change and added that although Ali was a “global citizen”, he never forgot his hometown.
It’s been two years since Ali passed away but the tributes are still happening in different ways.
