If you’re a fan of both hockey and The Office, then we know one of your favourite episodes had to have been the release of Threat Level Midnight in season seven of the series.

Though just in case you haven’t seen the episode or you just need a refresher of the cinematic masterpiece in question, we got you covered on the run down.

In Michael Scott’s acting and directorial debut, he plays Michael Scarn, a secret agent who is given the heavy task of saving the NHL All-Star Game from being blown up as well as saving several hostages.

Scarn, who comes out of retirement brought on by the death of his wife Catherine-Zeta Scarn (Michael Scarn can do it all) had been able to save previous All-Star games such as the NFL’s, NBA’s, and MLB’s. So for him to get the all-time pants trick on saving All-Star games would set him apart from all of the other secret agents, of course.

Well, how was Michael Scarn going to save the day? He’s not in the NHL, so how would he be able to get into the game?

A loophole, of course. Thank god for Michael Scott’s imagination and the NHL All-Star game allowing open tryouts for the public to play. Scarn just would have to win a skating competition and he’d be set, but not without some help from famous hockey instructor, Cherokee Jack (played by Creed Branton) of course.

“I’m not here to learn how to mop, I’m here to learn how to play hockey - Michael Scarn” - Michael Scott.

Cue Billy Joel’s Running On Ice. Here’s where things take a nice little turn.

It’s actually kind of funny because Michael Scarn/Scott is pretty good at hockey. Well, Steve Carrell is pretty good at hockey, but that’s a story for another time.

As Michael Scarn, for quote “was quickly becoming one of the hottest hockey players in the country”, it’s due or die time quite as he competes against a speed skater (Oscar Martinez) and his arch-nemesis, Goldenface (Jim Halpert) to which the two end up in an exhilarating gunfight where both of them lose.

You know, until Michael wins due to default after strangling Oscar’s character but we digress.

The climax and best part of the movie happen when it’s time for the All-Star game. Scarn enters the game and carries on the legacy of Cherokee Jack while trying to hit the bomb-hidden puck out of the arena.

Here’s the kicker though. The game that Michael Scott decided to film for his movie was not one that was planned for Threat Level Midnight, rather a state-qualifying game for the Scranton High School hockey team. As a result of Michael skating on, Scranton High School had to forfeit the game as well as lose their undefeated season while Michael was pushed off the ice by an on-ice official.
