Team Canada is once again on top of the hockey world, or at least the under 20 hockey world.

Team Canada’s World Juniors team sunk the Russians in a thrilling 4-3 victory that instantly cemented itself into World Juniors’ lore as one of the best gold medal games all-time. This was thanks in large part to a very unlikely suspect who stepped up immediately after team captain Barrett Hayton was crunched into the boards on his bad shoulder.

Akil Thomas only had about four minutes of playing time approaching the end of regulation when he heroically scored Canada’s 4th goal.

Not only was it as timely as can be, it was an incredible showing of skill. How did he get that to go in the net in SUCH a small space?

Following the game, everyone wanted to hear from the man that hardly got any attention all tournament. As Tessa Bonhomme extended the microphone in Thomas’ direction, Canada got an unexpected little surprise courtesy of Liam Foudy.

Thomas and Foudy are both from Scarborough, so it’s no surprise Foudy chose to come screaming into the frame. The move earned Scarborough a lot of love, too.
