Canadian tennis is brighter than ever before with a handful of talented canucks taking over both the Men’s and Women’s circuit. Two years after Bianca Andreescu claimed her first major on the New York courts of the U.S. Open, another Canadian is making her mark as well.
Leylah. Annie. Fernandez.
Fernandez has been showing some awesome potential over the past year, including her first win at the Monterrey Open in a convincing two-set victory over Viktorija Golubic, completing the tournament without dropping a single set.
Now playing in New York, Fernandez is off to the semi-finals. She hasn’t had an easy route there, either. She defeated (3) Naomi Osaka, (1) Angelique Kerber, and (5) Elina Svitolina to get here.
Along the way, she’s been picking up fans like we’ve been picking apples this time of year. She won over some more when she had a fantastic answer to a question about Canada’s success at the U.S. Open.
Does maple syrup count as a performance enhancing drug? Maybe it should for us Canadians!
