A lot of people turned on LeBron James pretty quickly when he decided to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Miami Heat, but when he chose to leave the Cavs the second time, this time for the Los Angeles Lakers, a lot of basketball fans in Cleveland were more thankful than they were upset since he returned home and delivered on his promise of bringing them a title.
If there were any basketball fans in Cleveland who still felt hatred towards LeBron James, those feelings probably changed pretty quickly on Monday with the doors at I Promise School, a school in Akron, Ohio, created for at-risk students by James, officially opening for the very first time.
Through the LeBron James Family Foundation, the I Promise School is the newest public school to open in Akron and is the new home to 240-atrisk 3rd and 4th graders.
The students attending the new school will have a longer-than-normal school year, with the main focus on accelerated learning to bring all the kids up to speed.
The school also has services dedicated to helping students who deal with stress related to their parents who are struggling to make ends meet, and provides plenty of activities to keep them busy after school hours.
The school will also help families with job placements, and also has an on-site food bank that parents will be allowed to pick from for their family meals.
