May 24th. That’s a day that would usually be choked full of excitement for sports fans in North America. To put it into perspective, May 24th was the day after the Toronto Raptors took a 3-2 series lead against Milwaukee in the 2019 NBA Playoffs – one day before advancing to the franchise’s first ever Finals appearance.
Unfortunately, this year is different. With COVID-19 virus forcing sports into unprecedented precautions, the sports world has essentially been put on hold.
While an unexpected pause in the action isn’t something we would wish for, it certainly provides perspective. When sports return, they certainly won’t be taken for granted.
In a new ad featuring narration from LeBron James, Nike taps into this feeling. Sports fans are longing for the return of their favourite teams, their favourite pass times, and their heroes. Soon enough we’ll have them back, but for now we can only continue to dream.
“We’re never too far to come back”
If you didn’t get goosebumps from that last line, you may not get goosebumps from anything. COVID-19 has been a test on the sports world, but it could never squash the spirits of a true sports fan.
