When you think of Toronto Maple Leafs legends, there’s no shortage of names that come to mind. While your mind may automatically go to Darryl Sittler, Johnny Bower, Mars Sundin, Dave Keon, Borje Salming, Wendel Clark, George Armstrong, or any of the other players to slip on the blue and white Maple Leaf, you wouldn’t usually immediately consider someone that didn’t wear a jersey.
That’s the category that Jim Gregory would fall into. A career front office man, Gregory was general manager for the Leafs between the years of 1968 and 1979. While some may call that the beginning of the drought, they were important formative years for the team. Gregory’s role earned him the honour of a 2007 Hockey Hall of Fame induction.
Last Wednesday, the hockey world said goodbye to Gregory who passed away at the age of 83. On Tuesday, the Leafs paid tribute to their former leader with a touching video and a moment of silence.
The Leafs held a moment of silence as well as they say goodbye to Gregory. The fan base also made sure to pay their respects.
