The NFL 2019 league year isn’t even a week old but there’s already been a bunch of star players to change teams over the past few days. One of the players who decided it was time for a change in teams this year is running back Le’Veon Bell, who went with the New York Jets over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
A lot of football fans weren’t shocked that Bell decided to leave the Steelers, but they were shocked that he decided to go with the Jets of all teams considering they’ve won a combined 14 games over the past three seasons. In a recent interview with ESPN, Bell opened up about why he turned down the Steelers’ five-year, $70 million deal last offseason and decided to sit out the year.
The biggest thing that turned Bell off from re-signing with the Steelers was the fact that there was no guaranteed money in the deal, despite having one of the heaviest workloads in the league.
Bell signed a four-year, $52.5 million contract with the Jets on March 13, 2019, with $35 million guaranteed.
