It was the Lamar Jackson show on Monday night.
In his first game against the Los Angeles Rams, the 22-year-old lit the lamp with five touchdowns on 169 passing yards and 95 on the ground in a dominant 45-6 Ravens road win over the Rams. Jackson now sits tied with Russell Wilson for the lead league in passing touchdowns with 24 and remarkably sits ninth in with 876 rushing yards (all positions). The 2018 32nd overall pick looks like the clear-cut favourite to win MVP but when asked about it, he insisted he’s not worried about winning the award.
Instead, he’s focusing on winning it all.
“That’s a team award, and that’s what I want.” Is it possible to love this dude anymore?!?! (Except for all of you Steelers fans, of course).
Just because Jackson isn’t focused on the award that doesn’t mean his teammates aren’t. Running back Mark Ingram has vouched for his QB on numerous occasions this year and Monday night was no exception. Honestly, this writer wishes he could be as passionate about anything in life as Ingram is for Jackson winning MVP.
The Ravens will get their biggest test in the San Francisco 49ers so time will tell if Jackson can continue to build on his case against one of the NFL’s best defences.
