After being drafted 2nd overall by the Winnipeg Jets just a few years ago, Patrik Laine will experience his first taste of a new team. The Finnish sniper was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets in a deal that involved Pierre-Luc Dubois going the other way, and Laine will try to bring his goal-scoring prowess to a Jackets team trying to solidify an identity.
The interesting part about this trade is that the Jackets haven’t actually experienced Laine’s goal-scoring first hand. In fact, they’re the ONLY team that hasn’t. Laine has scored a goal against every team in the NHL except the Jackets and, of course, the Jets.
As pointed out by u/HipsterLouisRiel, Hockey Reference lists Laine as having scored at least one goal against every team except the Jets and Jackets, including up to as many as 18 against the Dallas Stars. Now that he’s joining the Jackets, he’s missed his chance to score a goal against every team for the time being.
With the way the NHL is laid out this season, it may be a little while until Laine even has a shot at Winnipeg. We’re thinking a goal against the Jets may actually be even sweeter than a goal against the Jackets would have been, but who are we to say?
