The 2019-2020 NBA season is expected to resume in Orlando late next month but it seems like there’s a lot of players who don’t feel too comfortable about returning to play just yet.
According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Kyrie Irving led a call on Friday that included more than 80 NBA players and multiple players spoke out about not wanting to continue playing due to the nationwide unrest from social injustice and racism, as well as COVID-19 issues.
Irving was one of the leaders on the call and one of the players who feels it’s not right to return with everything going on, while Donovan Mitchell, who was one of the first athletes to catch the coronavirus, raised concerns about COVID-19 and the NBA’s bubble plan.
We’re still over a month away from the expected return date, and a lot can still change until then, especially when players start to bring up their concerns and remind everyone this is all bigger than sports.
