The NFL Draft is where dreams come true for young NFL players, as they realized they’ll have the opportunity to make it in football at the highest level. While the spotlight is squarely on the player getting drafted, the ripple effect is one felt by family, friends, coaches, former teammates, and anyone else that worked to get a player there.
For Kwity Paye’s mom, Agnes, the spotlight turned directly to her for one incredible moment.
While you often see players taking care of their families after being drafted, this one is particularly special. Agnes is originally from Liberia, in West Africa, where she escaped the country’s first civil war by seeking refuge in Guinea.
Kwity was born in a refugee camp in Guinea, and eventually Agnes decided to head to America to land in Rhode Island with Kwity and his brother.
She worked two jobs to afford a private school for Kwity, and her son’s elite level athleticism eventually led him to a promising life as an athlete. On Thursday, we got to witness the culmination of an unbelievably inspiring journey.
