Creative hockey players are simply the best. Normally creativity in hockey is seen in the form of a unique shootout attempt or a nifty between the legs pass. Evgeny Kuznetsov is adding to that definition by using his quick thinking to try to get out of penalties.

In a close game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Capitals had six men out on the ice. Rather than accept the fate of being handed a penalty, Kuznetsov skated over to the Penguins bench in an attempt to hide.

In the moment, I’m sure the Penguins bench wasn’t too thrilled with Kuznetsov’s antics. Sidney Crosby was asked about it post-game, but he had no idea that it even happened.

If Crosby gives you credit for a play like this, then it’s absolutely fair game. You’ve got to give Kuznetsov points for effort on this one. He didn’t end up getting away with it, but big props to the heads up play.
