Nothing has gone right for the Los Angeles Kings this season. They're in the basement as far as the standings go and things haven't gotten much better since they fired John Stevens.
On Sunday, however, the Kings beat the Oilers 5-2, but you know things aren't good when all anyone is talking about after a big win is playing time of a big-name player.
Kovalchuk is making his return to the NHL this season and his ice time has decreased in recent games. When Willie Desjardins was asked about Kovalchuk's ice time after the game, he had a simple response.
The reasoning is understandable, but it still doesn't make a ton of sense considering how much the Kings spent to bring Kovalchuk back to the NHL.
Plus, considering where the Kings rank in goals for this season (last), you'd think it would be beneficial to play Kovalchuk more.
Kovalchuk isn't getting the ice time right now, though, and Kings fans aren't happy about it to say the least.
For anyone wondering, Kovalchuk's career-low for minutes in a regular season game is 0:45 seconds (injury related), but his next lowest is 4:43 and that happened during his rookie season.
