Tomas Plekanec joined the NHL’s 1,000 club last night at Montreal’s Bell Centre, but all rookie Jesperi Kotkaniemi could think about was the amount of food he must’ve eaten in order to get there.

Following the team’s 7-3 dismantling of the Detroit Red Wings, the 18-year-old (yes, he was indeed born in 2000) was asked about the veteran’s milestone and raised a great point that can probably be said about many hockey players that’ve reached 1,000 contests: how many game-day pastas has the guy eaten in his career?!

It’s funny Jesperi, another well-known NHLer recently played in his 1,000th and brought up pasta (and pizza), too. Just another golden quote from everyone’s favourite goaltender Roberto luongo...

If Jesperi is looking for further reason to consume a massive plate of pasta for each game then he should just take a look at Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin. The man hammers pasta (along with a few other items of food) before every home game. Look at this spread!!!!

Considering he’s just 18, we’re sure Kotkaniemi is going to put down a ton of pasta throughout his career.
