With the amount of accolades and accomplishments Kobe Bryant has done in his 39 years on this planet.
The five-time NBA champion recently added a new sort of award to his hardware case, picking up an Oscar for the short animated “Dear Basketball” on retiring from basketball. He even now has his own segment on ESPN called “Detail,’ which provides a compressive look into the way the Black Mumba analyzes the sports and meticulously breaks down game footage in a way the casual fan can understand.
So, it was only a matter of time that the Lakers legend was going to release a novel.
On Tuesday, Bryant announced via his Twitter page that he will be releasing “The Mamba Mentality: How I Play” that includes an introduction written by Kobe’s former coach Phil Jackson and teammate Pau Gasol.
Here’s a breakdown of the book, which will be similar to his ESPN segment, according to publisher MCD Books:
“Bryant decided to share his vast knowledge and understanding of the game to take readers on an unprecedented journey to the core of the legendary “Mamba Mentality.” Citing an obligation and an opportunity to teach young players, hardcore fans, and devoted students of the game how to approach it, The Mamba Mentality takes us inside the mind of one of the most intelligent, analytical, and creative basketball players of all time.
…. For the first time, and in his own words, Bryant reveals his famously detailed approach and the steps he took to prepare mentally and physically to not just succeed at the game, but to excel. Readers will learn how Bryant studied an opponent, how he channeled his passion for the game, how he played through injuries. They’ll also get fascinating granular detail as he breaks down specific plays and match-ups from throughout his career.”
The book will be available prior to tip off of the 2018-19 season with a release date of October 23rd.
