The Toronto Raptors came out of the gates hot on Wednesday, looking like a totally different team in a 72-point first half against the Denver Nuggets than they’ve been over the last nine games. This is a welcome change for Raptors fans, but that wasn’t all that was different.
The game also SOUNDED a little different. Instead of the familiar voices of Matt Devlin, Jack Armstrong, and Leo Rautins broadcasting across the airwaves, commentary was provided by Meghan McPeak and Kia Nurse instead. McPeak and Nurse were two pieces of an all-female broadcast team during a historic night for women in broadcasting.
While Nurse really carved out her own place in the colour commentary role, she did make sure to pay homage to Jack Armstrong and his iconic “Get that garbage outta here!” exclamation.
Jack?! That you?!
While nobody can quite hit the same frequency Jack can, Kia does a pretty good job. It was certainly a welcome moment of humour during the Raptors torrid first half.
