This past weekend, we showed you a clip of Flyers prospects and Hamilton Bulldogs forward Matthew Strome scoring a lacrosse-styled goal in an OHL game.
While Strome’s was more of him capitalizing on a rolling puck and using his body’s momentum to carry himself around the net and tuck one in, Sergey Shumakov of CKSA Moscow executed the goal in a much more purposeful manner with more time to set up.
In a game against Avangard with his team up 1-0, Shumakov had all the time in the world behind the net, and waited as the opposing defenders stood at the side of the goal waiting to break up a pass in-front.
After noticing that the goaltender kept looking to the side of his net, Shumakov decided to catch everyone off guard, as he scooped the puck on his blade and placed it right in the top left corner of the net.
The goaltender, who goes into the reverse VH position in hoping to seal off the net, is just a little too late in getting over, and couldn't block the puck in time.
CKSA is first in the KHL's Tarasov Division with a 27-5-1 record. Former NHLers Nikita Nesterov, Mikhail Grigorenko, Roman Lyubimov, and NHL prospects Kirill Kaprizov, Nikita Popugaev and Ilya Sorokin play for the club.
While the lacrosse goal isn't as much as a novelty it once was, it's still cool to see once in a while, especially if you're watching a game, because nobody, including goatlenders really ever expect someone to pull it off.
