One of the scariest things that can happen in baseball is getting struck by a high-velocity ball. Whether that’s from a pitch, a come-backer, a foul ball, or a line drive, baseballs certainly have potential to do some damage.
New York Mets outfielder Kevin Pillar was reminded of that the hard way after he took a 94mph pitch to the face.
With the bases loaded later in the ball game, the Jacob Webb pitch clearly wasn’t meant to hit Pillar. Regardless, it came up and struck Pillar in the nose, leaving him leaking all over the batter’s box.
He walked off under his own power, but obviously did not return to the game and a pinch runner took over on first base.
On Tuesday, it was revealed that Pillar had suffered multiple fractures in his nose. Pillar insisted he was “doing fine.”
On top of the hockey guy answer, Pillar apparently showed up to the Mets clubhouse asking if he was in the lineup (in jest, of course).
Pillar spoke with the media, and he looked like he just got out of Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final.
To complete the total hockey guy profile, Pillar consistently maintained that he feels totally fine and that it’s worse than it looks.
Can you skate, Kev?
