If there’s something we love, if sports and movies. So when the two collide, oh boy are we fired up.
Especially when those films come from none other than Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions. Seriously. Happy Gilmore has to be on in the ranking of Top Ten sports movies. And let’s not forget The WaterBoy and The Longest Yard!
So when news broke that not only will Happy Madison be producing a film centred around New Orleans Saint coach Sean Payton and the organization’s “Bountygate” scandal back in 2012, but who will be portraying Payton, we got fired up.
As per NBC’s Peter King, actor and comedian Kevin James will be portraying the Saints coach within the new Netflix film “Home Team.”
And what better way than for the Falcons and Saints to share some memes online!
The to-Netflix film will surround Payton’s role as the assistant coach to his son Connor’s sixth-grade football team in Texas, following the year-long suspension he was served by the NFL.
The inspiration for the film came about as Meghan Payton, Sean’s daughter, shed light on the scandal at the beginning of 2021. Speaking with past members of the Liberty Christian Warriors, the five minute documentary on NFL Network definitely was interesting enough that five minutes was just not cutting it!
Though here’s where the fun little connection comes in.
Meghan’s boyfriend Christopher Titone is the brother-in-law of Adam Sandler! He even works on production and acts as well!
So when coming across Meghan’s work, Sandler was interested in creating a movie derived off the success of the youth football team and who better than to give that mix between father and coach than Kevin James!? If his role as Payton is anything like his nine years with The King of Queens, then we can guarantee we’ll love this film.
Production is set to begin towards the end of this year!
