On the biggest stage in the game, Kevin Durant made his return from a calf injury only to suffer a tragic Achilles tear in the same leg during the first half. The basketball world immediately offered their condolences; the response was similar after Durant revealed the extent of his injury.
Taking to Instagram with a post-surgery photo, Durant confirmed that his injury was a ruptured Achilles tendon, and that he’s already on the comeback trail. In a lengthy message, he writes, “I'm hurting deeply, but I'm ok. Basketball is my biggest love and I wanted to be out there that night because that's what I do.”
The feedback in the replies were instant and overwhelming, with many stars from around the league as well as other pop culture icons showing love to KD.
Kevin Love, Isaiah Thomas, Paul George, Luka Doncic, Dejounte Murray, Mo Bamba, Ja Morant, JaVale McGee, Zaza Pachulia, Gilbert Arenas and Kemba Walker are just a few of the NBAers to post their well wishes, as well as Tom Brady, Kevin Hart, YG, Odell Beckham Jr., Kodak Black, ScHoolboy Q, Gabrielle Union and KD’s alma mater, the Texas Longhorns — and there are many more in the comments.
So, if you couldn’t tell, the game is going to miss Kevin Durant.
