In the age of social media, it's easier than ever before for fans to interact with their favourite athletes.
Back in October, a young Ducks fan from Vancouver Island by the name of Mackinley Whalen tweeted a letter to her favourite team, asking if Ryan Kesler, her favourite player, would be around to hang out when she came to visit the team in November. She even offered some popcorn to Kesler to seal the deal.
Somehow, somewhere, Kesler got a hold of the letter and took Mackinley up on her gracious popcorn offering and came to watch the game with his biggest fan for an entire period. The game was back on November 3rd, but on Thursday the Ducks released a video that detailed the entire heartwarming encounter between the two.
If that's not what hockey's all about, we don't know what is. What a fantastic way for a young fan to get to interact with one of their heroes and develop a closer bond with the game of hockey.
It would've been easy for Kesler to simply send an autograph, meet for a quick picture or even just ignore the letter altogether, but instead he gifted Mackinley with an experience that she'll surely never forget.
