It’s unlikely to mean much in the standings by this point in the year, but fans of the Toronto Blue Jays who have slogged through a disappointing 2018 season may have found some relief in the team’s play of late.

The Jays have won four games in a row, and a large part of that has been the tremendous play of Kendrys Morales. After smashing a home run to left field early in today’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies, Morales has now tied an impressive franchise record with homers in six consecutive games.

Morales has tied Jose Cruz Jr. for the longest home run streak in Jays history, and he’s also matched the Cardinals’ Matt Carpenter for the longest such streak of the season. It’s only a silver lining in the greater arc of the season, to be sure, but entertainment value is entertainment value.

If you’re interested in keeping track, the all-time league record is eight consecutive games with a home run, shared by Don Mattingly, Ken Griffey Jr. and Dale Long. Just two more to go for Morales!

As of the time of writing, the Jays trail the Phillies 6-5 in the seventh inning, so anything else that Morales can supply would help to preserve the team’s winning streak. His home run streak, however, will live on for another day.
